Mimi Fontana is one the driving forces
behind the New York City Tribal Belly Dance
community.
A former figure skater and bass guitarist
(with several major label credits and a world
of touring under her belt) for the last decade
has devoted herself to ethnic dance forms
and specifically Amercan Tribal Style Belly
Dance….a dance form developed on the West
Coast more than 20 years ago, and newly
sprung upon the NYC dance scene.
Creator and Director of Manhattan Tribal,
Mimi is actively teaching locally and
internationally, performing and helping to
foster a community for this eclectic modern
dance format.
Mimi has been a member of Vadalna Tribal
Bellydance which she created with partner
Naraya, Alchemy Dance Theater and PURE
NYC, and in Cabaret Style Belly Dance,
Maqamikaze Dance Theater -principal dancer
and choreography coach, Serena Dance
Theater - principal member, and has
performed as a guest of the Belly Dance
Superstars, BellyQueen and a host of other
companies....
Manhattan Tribal, New York City's first
Professional ATS Belly Dance Company.
Mimi is certified by Fat Chance Belly Dance
to teach American Tribal Style Belly Dance
and is honored to be a FCBD Sister Studio
What is a FCBD Sister Studio:
Sister Studios are graduates of General Skills for
ATS, ATS Teacher Training and exclusive FCBD
Teacher Training.
These teachers are dedicated to presenting ATS as
created and developed by FatChanceBellyDance
director and master teacher Carolena Nericcio.
Sister Studios do not blend ATS with other styles
of dance, tribal or otherwise.
They present ATS only, or clearly separate ATS
from the other styles of dance they are presenting.
Our goal is that you, the student, should be able
to attend a FCBD ATS class anywhere in the world
and receive consistent, quality instruction.
